Baratza is recognized for inventing the first commercial super-automatic latte/espresso machine. It has been accorded several US and foreign patents for the innovations incorporated in the Acorto coffee machines.
After years in commercial coffee business, Baratza focused on creating superior quality coffee equipment. The venture started off with improvement of the Solis grinder that led to the development of Baratza's first grinder, the Maestro and later the Maestro Plus. Both these models have become the benchmark for home grinders in the gourmet coffee industry.
Baratza subsequently concentrated more on design, development, production and distribution aspects of high-end gourmet coffee grinders. With their rich experience in coffee grinding and brewing equipment, the company embarked on setting higher standards for home grinders.
The result of this commitment was the Virtuoso coffee grinder. Baratza set out to blur the lines between home and commercial coffee grinders with this product. Its salient feature is the innovative burr calibration system that ensures that each grinder will accurately grind for espresso, drip, and coffee press.
The company has gone ahead with upgrading the Maestro and Maestro Plus grinders incorporating several innovative features of the Virtuoso. The upgraded Maestro and Maestro Plus have been introduced under the Baratza brand name.
