Peck Stow and Wilcox Coffee Grinders
Peck Stow & Wilcox came into existence with the merger of three companies namely S. Stow Manufacturing Company, Peck, Smith & Company and the Roy’s Wilcox Company. Peck Stow & Wilcox was probably the foremost manufacturer of tinsmiths tools and machine in the world. The Company manufactured and sold bits, braces, chisels, dividers, draw knives, hammers, household tools, machinist tools, screwdrivers, tinsmith tools and wrenches.
The company was also ahead in household appliances and manufactured choppers, meat cutters, grinders, sausage stuffers and coffee mills. The brand name ‘Little Giant’ was used on some of these products. They were the manufacturer of highest grade and best quality coffee mills. Their several products can still be seen in the antique stores.
The antique stores have taken special care of the coffee mills and restored them. There are several models that with worn out conditions have now been repaired by completely disassembling and all metal pieces bead blasted. Further the metal pieces are primed, sanded, painted black except the grinding disk. The grinding disk is lightly coated with mineral oil after blasting. The original wood backing is sanded with palm sander and finished with 5 coats of hand rubbed wax.
Some of the models still available in the antique stores are Parker No. 50 Side Coffee Mill/ Grinder (square nut), Peck Stow &Wilcox Side Coffee Mill/ Grinder (rosette nut), Peck Stow & Wilcox No. 30 Grinders and Clamp and Peck Stow & Wilcox No 3500.
