Taking care of your coffee grinder
Ground coffee turns stale after sometime. It is stuck in the walls of the grinding chamber one should make it a point to clean it before grinding fresh batch of coffee beans. If the stale coffee gets mixed with the fresh one it will taste bitter and spoil the fun of freshly brewed coffee.
For routine cleaning the procedure is provided in the instruction manual that comes with the grinder. In regular cleaning for exterior, make use of a damp cloth and wipe the complete unit. But if it requires more cleaning dip a cloth in warm soapy water wipe the machine. Then again go over the entire surface with a damp cloth and wipe it clean.
For interior parts wipe it with clean damp water after every use. This will remove the residue of ground coffee beans. For hard to reach places and crevices use a pipe cleaner to remove residue if any. If the coffee grinder has detachable grinding mechanism it can be removed and washed in the sink with warm soapy water or put it in a dishwasher.
Cleaning should never involve putting the whole grinder in the water. Cleaning solutions should not be used for cleaning grinding chambers that can spoil the taste of coffee. Do not make use of abrasive pads, or cleansers as they can leave the exterior surface with scratches. |
