Different types of Coffee Grinders

Coffee grinders are the great source of fresh and flavorful coffee for coffee lovers. Before the introduction of coffee grinders the traditional way in which the coffee beans were smashed either with hammer or flat rock. This primitive and time consuming technique is now replaced by the more advanced Coffee Grinders.

Basically there are two types of modern coffee grinders- the one with the burrs and the other with the blades. Your choice will depend on the grinder’s intended use, whether it is for espresso, coffee or for both. . If you want to grind beans in small batches a grinder with a doser is what you need.

The Burr Grinder is the first choice of the majority. This is so because it grinds finely with complete precision. The Burr grinders come in two varieties, the conical burrs and the flat blades. Both types have a stationary burr and the second burr that moves with the power of the motor. The coffee beans fall between the two burrs and getting ground. The grinder features setting that allow selection of specific coarseness or fineness of the grind. This feature enables to grind coffee the way it is desired.

The Blade Grinder: this type of grinder comes with a single blade that closely resembles a propeller. This does not come with the type of features available in the Burr Grinder. While grinding one has to closely watch the machine or you may grind the beans into coffee dust. The blade grinders are perfect to make drip coffee but are not ideal for coffee drinks or espresso. Moreover blade grinders lack consistency in grinding.
